To tell the whole truth, I didn’t want to go to Mykonos. To my eyes Mykonos was just an island for celebrities, for people who would like to become celebrities or just to mess with them, for TV cameras and fashion victims.

Nevertheless, I was almost forved to go to the island and so I did. And I did well!

I went to Mykonos in the first days of October and for my good luck the celebrities and all the things that I didn’t want to see were gone. There were a lot of tourists, but they were the kind of people that I like, easy people, no celebrities, no celebrity hunters.

Myconos - Small Venice

In the other hand, the hotel rooms were much cheaper and there was a seat for you at the bars. In the narrow streets of Mykonos was no crowd and at the Mills you could take a picture of yourself.

And Chora – the city of Mykonos – was magnificent. A small island town, picturesque and beautiful, coloured with the blue and white of its houses.

The three days that I visited Mykonos were rainy, so we stayed in Chora and didn’t manage to go to the inland and the beaches. But we had a lot of Chora! We walked in the labyrinth of the small and beautiful narrow streets. What I liked most was the painted doors and windows of the houses and the way they were mixed with the white walls. In Matoyianni, the market street, I was astonished to see all these High Class Shops with Top Brands from all over the world

We met Petros, the pelican of Mykonos, a lot of times, and it was really something to take pictures of him. A tourist was really annoying and the pelican got mad enough to make her run away.

We left Petros and walked to the Windmills to take some pictures by the sunset. We visited the church of Panayia Paraportiani and finally we went to one of Small Venice’s (Mikri Venetia) bars.

This was the place that I liked most. It’s next to the sea and you almost feel the wave on your skin. Of course it’s a bit expensive and in the high season you have to be a celebrity or a milionaire to find a table next to the sea.

If someone asks me if I would go to Myconos, I will answer yes for sure. But I wont go there neither on July or August, nor in October. I will probably choose May or September. And I will book a room in the internet a long time before to find some cheap offers. And I will try to stay for more days to visit the rest of the island. And I will have with me a lot of money to pay the bills at the bars and the restaurants.

Then, I’m sure that I will have a lot of fun!

Vangelis.
