Kythnos
(or “Thermia”) is an island which gives me
the impression that tries to stay “hidden”
and does whatever needed not to be discovered!
It is, only, three hours far from Piraeus, there are amazing
beaches with beautiful blue waters and, as soon as you
get to port, you can find all the commodities you need
for your stay.
What is , however, that makes the island “inaccessible”
and unknown, although it is so close to Piraeus?
I believe that it is its residents’ some particularities. |

RFor example, if you like to be dressed glamorous and
expect to find the fashionable night life, while, in
the morning, you are planning to go to an organised
beach in order to lie down on a reclining chair and
order cocktails from the beach - bar, you would better
not even think to visit this island.
On the contrary, if you like to wander around all the
morning in your swimsuit and as soon as the sun goes
down you put on your jeans and your comfortable shoes
with the intention to go to a feast that takes place
those days (and believe me there are plenty), if you
like to dance “ballo” (traditional dance
of greek islands) and drink strong wine, if you have
humour and you don’t get teased when the locals
make jokes on you (they like doing it very much), if,
when you go to the beach, like to park yourself under
a sea tree (“Almiriki”) in order to get
a nap, then Kythnos is an ideal destination for your
vacation.
Attention! Camping is not allowed, you should give attention
to find good food and you better have your own mean
of transport.
However, should you have a good time, you are, certainly,
looking forward for your next visit...
Besides, you can’t discover all its beauties at
first!
