I have traveled to Ios two times, at the end of July-beginning
of August. I would say that these are original greek holidays
enjoying the view of aegean islands.
The main characteristic of this island is the mad and
crazy atmosphere allover! Every summer, the whole island
becomes a real party. Greek people as well as tourists
have fun, drink, dance, and fall in love at Hora.
Whereas, the island offers many ways of entertainment,
relaxing or intense moments. It always depends on the
choices of every traveler.

To begin with, for the accommodation I chose both times
the rooms to let of Marouso (Blue Sky Rooms). Located
between Hora and Mylopotas, the rooms are not exceptional,
but they are clean, the service is very good and the
people extremely kind. I would advise you to choose
the rooms that are at the back of the building. The
view to the ocean is gorgeous!
For swimming we probably went firstly to the famous
beach of Mylopotas, as the habitants there call it.
Before we end up to the beach bar Far Out, where the
atmosphere is really “hot”, we prefer to swim at the
beginning of the beach, where the water is cleaner and
the color of the deep blue. More glamorous is the Far
Out Village, near to the beach bar Far Out.
For lunch we always go to Faros, a restaurant which
is famous for the delicious pizzas and club sandwiches!
This year we discovered one other deserted beach, hidden
between the mountains near to Mylopotas. It is called
Kolitsani and the access is possible only via a small
path at the mountain. Surely, the view at the end of
the path makes you forget the tiredness of the trip.
Other beaches we visited were the famous Maganari as
well as Ag.Theodoti, a calmer beach.
Our favourite destination for the night was Ammos, a
very lounge bar, related to the others at the island,
hidden at the small paths of Hora, with calm music and
very delicious cocktails! Later at the evening the best
places to go are Buldog, where greek people mostly go,
and Scorpion, a more hard club. Also, don’t forget to
enjoy the famous greek “ouzo”, at the only restaurant
under the mills of Hora. At the end of the night, everyone
at the island enjoys the hot delicious pies at the Bakery
of Hora.
This is only one part of the island, there are many
more places that you can learn about if you visit the
greekaegeanislands.com,
like the premises of the Medieval Castle at Hora, the
tumble of Omiros, the theatre of Elitis and other ones
that I’ll surely visit if I will go again!
Finally, it’s interesting if one can go to the small
trips that are organized by local boats to islands as
Sikinos, Kimolos, and other traditional aegean destinations
that are near to Ios.
Xenia.
